explain the irony of the atmosphere that is high lighted?

The irony of the first six lines of 'Out, Out...' is that the beauty of the natural setting and its tranquility is emphasised. We see the mountains and the sunset of Vermont. This is ironic in that the natural beauty is being destroyed by the loggers.
