THe buzz saw is sort of this dark entity on its own. Frost describes the saw "leaping out at the boy's hand". THe saw is thus personified as a sort of "snarling" animal. It is an animal which refuses to be tamed. The saw personified as an animal will eat, "as if to prove saws knew what supper meant." In this case it would be the boy's flesh. THe saw also "rattles" giving the sense of a snake-like creature who is unpredictable.
