Robert Frost: Poems
What is the speaker's attitude about these events?
it is about the story out out
it is about the story out out
The speaker is regretful and a little bit angry about what transpired. He laments they hadn't ended earlier ("I wish they might have said") and pay attention to where he uses exclamation points to illustrate that it could have been different. In the end, he notes with a bit of detached scorn how everyone just turned from the boy. You get the sense he cared for the boy but saw how nonchalantly negligence allowed the boy to die.
