Free will and fortune are connected. Machiavelli states that "fortune is the arbiter of half the things we do, leaving the other half or so to be controlled by ourselves." Free Will and fortune are a union of opposites. Machiavelli urges rulers to use free will to take precautions with and against fortune that will always change.
