M. de Clèves becomes sick and dies.... he is heartbroken.
M. de Nemours takes advantage of his death and pursues the princess.
Mme de Clèves looks for forgiveness. She also tells de Nemours that she cannot be with him, as he is untrustworthy. She later retires to a convent.
