Chapter 23: Why do you think Crane spends so much time on the rival flag bearers death?

I think that really the rival flag barer isn't much different than Henry. He is another boy thrust into war and forced to grow up much too fast. He, in many ways, is a reflection of henry; he just happens to be on the opposing forces.
