This is a pretty broad question, but it is clear that the most explicit use of color in the novel occurs in the title. The "red badges" Henry witnesses on the battlefield a wide array of attitudes and emotions: jealousy, pity, fear, etc. This imagery is powerful in the sense that it spares no detail in recounting the horrendous reality of war.
