A) a reasonable one B) an unreasonable one C) a cowardly question D) a courageous question
chapter 18
A , reasonable
B) unreasonable, I don't believe it was cowardly, but everyone knew the boys had heard what they heard.
"One man had a final objection: "How could yeh hear 'em talkin'?" But the men, for a large part, nodded, admitting that previously the two friends had spoken truth."
The Red Badge of Courage/ Chapter 18
Aslan might be right here.......... I think this relates to how the reader perceives the question. I see the man as reaching for what he wants to hear rather than believing what he doesn't want to hear.
He asked what good it would do to charge at that point. This sounds pretty reasonable.
A little group of soldiers surrounded the two youths. "Are we, sure 'nough? Well, I'll be derned! Charge? What fer? What at? Wilson, you're lyin'."
Like I said, you may be right. I am looking at the quote specific to the man with the final objection and basing my judgment from there.......... but I don't completely disagree with you; I am questioning myself.
"One man had a final objection: "How could yeh hear 'em talkin'?" But the men, for a large part, nodded, admitting that previously the two friends had spoken truth."
No, I understand Jill. I just posted that before I saw your post.
