What are some examples of rhetorical techniques used throughout the novel?

Rhetorical devices run throughout the text, but here are a few. Henry sees a corpse while moving through the woods. The dead soldier symbolizes the soldiers who've died in battle, who've given their lives. Henry ran away...... this symbolizes what he hasn't done. Another rhetorical device was used to distinguish between night and day. Henry spends an entire day searching for his regiment but doesn't find them until night falls. He wakes up full of courage...... his cowardice set with the sun the night before.
