William of Normandy's invasion of England in the 11th century would not have endeared him to the English people. Also known as William the Conquerer, he invaded and conquered the land. The following years were frought with rebellion and attacks on William, as many plots were hatched against him. On Christmas Day in 1066, however, William finally defeated all those who'd stood in his way and was crowned the King of England.

Unlike the English, the French would embrace William's accomplishments. Relationships between the two countries would have flourished and French became the language of the English court.
