'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' presents the reader with the enormous learning experience which the mariner has gone through, and which he continues to pass on to those aound him (as he does with the wedding guest).
The mariner's tale is of selfishness and ignorance in killing the albatross without reason; then the great wareness and sensitivity which comes with forgiveness and redemption. The mariner learns the sanctity of life and the value that all living creatures should have. It is important that the magnitude of his punishment, suffering and redemption is witnessed and shared with others to heighten its intensity.
