why do the men die again? Did they ever change ? what has happened to the curse? Has it gone away?

The men don't actually experience rebirth, but rather return in spirit form to help the Mariner back to his homeland. The man's curse is that he must live with the responsibility of their deaths for the rest of his life; guilt is his burden.
