"You're not the one who has to worry about everything....[the boy] looked up, his wet and grimy face. Yes I am, he said I am the one." (259) what does he mean by this?

The boy is inferring that he will be the one left behind in the world they live in. The father won't always be with him, and the father is acting in way that boy is uncomfortable with.
