The man is saying that the universe is indifferent to a dying person. There are no blessings: a person just dies like the spark from their fire dies in the starless sky. There are no heavenly blessings; there is only death.
That life in the post apocalistic world is not important. That because there is no time, dates, or locations. To ones that are dying they don't care what's going on since everything is already dead.
