There is a sincerity and honesty to Hester and Perl which escapes the rest of the town. I think that Hester, Dimmesdale and Pearl could actually be a loving family if they were given half a chance. Hester and Pearl are real as opposed to many others in the town who merely pretend to be righteous. THere is a lot of hypocrisy in this town.
