The Scarlet Letter
What is one simularity and one difference between Hester Prynne and today's teen mothers.
I am writing an essay about how Hester and teen moms are the same and different from being alienated and what not.

It is difficult to generalize about teen moms. Each one has their own traits. We can, however, generalize about the era. During the 17th century, most babies were born to teenage girls. People simply did not live that long so families were started early. Teen moms out of wedlock would have been few and far between in the middle of the seventeenth century, especially in a Puritan village. Any girl who ended up in unfortunate circumstances like this would have been shunned like Hester was. Teen pregnancy out of wedlock today, although looked down on, certainly does not carry the same stigma as it did then.
