The Scarlet Letter
what is perl like?
chapter 6
chapter 6
Today Pearl would be considered a beautiful little free spirit, the essence of childhood. Unfortunately during the time of this story, she was an outcast. Pearl doesn't simply follow rules; she asks questions and ponders the logic of such matters. This really doesn't go over very well with Puritans. Puritans felt that children should be seen, not heard. Puritan children had their creative and individual passions beat out of them. Pearl was wedded to her passions. She sings and skips along with flowers in her hair. Many people see this proof that Pearl is the spawn of the Devil.
