The forest affords Hester a freedom that she doesn't have anywhere else. Dimmesdale is guilt ridden, and yet, he is not without hope.... he looks to their future. Pearl sees the forest as her own personal playground. She is at home there.... it affords her peace, food, calm, and the beauty of nature.
