What is the threat that looms over hester pearl and dimmesdale if they reveal chillingworths trur identity

Actually, Hester threatens to reveal her husband's identity..... Chillingworth doesn't want anyone to know who he is. If people find out his identity, he'll no longer be able to hold Pearl's birth over Dimmesdale and Hester. Chillingworth wants control not exposure.
