what was chillingworth like at the end of the story

Chillingworth was panicked by Dimmesdale's decision to acsend the scaffold and defeated in the man's confession. Because of this, Cillingworth loses his hold on the minister. The minister's torture has been his sole joy....... thus, he dies shortly after Dimmesdale.
