What was Dimmesdale's attitude toward his health?

Dimmesdale felt that if he was unworthy of carrying out God's designs, his health would suffer accordingly,

"He himself, on the other hand with characteristic humility, avowed his belief, that, if Providence should see fit to remove him, it would be because of his own unworthiness to perform its humblest mission here on earth."

He claims to need no medicine; he knows that what ails him is his heart, both physically and mentally.
