kinda have a few quetions.. the book is very confusing to me

1- who is the French Republic punishing in their Revolution, and why?

2- why has England not stepped in to stop the Republic in France?

3- what is the most dangerous part of what the Scarlet Pimpernel has been doing?

4- what can we see about Suzzane at the end of chapter 3?

5- what makes Jellyband nervous while serving guests at his inn?

6- how does the Scarlet Pimpernel sneak past the best gate guard in Paris?

7- what does Tinville find every time the Scarlet Pimpernel is succesful?

ALL THESE QUESTIONS ARE FROM CHAPTERS 1, 2 AND 3!

1) France isn't yet a republic, but the people (peasants) are revolting against the monarchy and the aristocrats as a whole.

2) England was against the revolution in France..... you have to remember that England was also ruled by the monarchy. The two countries had also been enemies for quite a period of time. England was particularly against the atheism and Godlessness of those leading the revolt.

3) The Scarlet Pimpernel risks his own life to smuggle the nobility out of the country.

4) Suzzane is in love with Andrew.

5) Lord Antony Dewhurst and Sir Andrew Ffoulkes are at the Fisherman's Rest; they're waiting for the newly arrived aristocracy.

6) He's able to sneak past while dressed as an old hag.

7) Whenever the Pimpernel is successful, a little red flower is left behind.
