What are the Scarlet Pimpernel's motives for saving people?

Percy's motives as the Scarlet Pimpernel are simple..... he is doing the right thing. He understands the anger of the masses, and he respects their plight, but he disagrees with rampant arrests, murder, and chaos. Percy is simply acting on his basic, moral values and doing what he believes to be right.
