Walter Mitty

The protagonist of our story, Walter Mitty is by turns a hen-pecked husband, an inept man, and a heroic daydreamer. Since he is constantly met with frustration and embarrassment in his real, everyday life, he takes to imagining himself in various colorful roles, earning the respect and adoration of others. His personas are: hydroplane commander, star surgeon, crack shot on trial, WWI captain, and condemned man on the firing line.

Mrs. Mitty

Mrs. Mitty is Walter, demanding, hen-pecking wife, a woman who is confused and annoyed by her husband's absentmindedness. She takes the day to get her hair done before meeting her husband at a hotel. She feels that there must be something wrong with Walter, requiring a doctor's examination, or else that he is simply not mature enough.

The Commander

Mitty's persona as the commander of a Navy hydroplane flying through a storm. Although his crew members fear for their safety, he inspires confidence in them.

Dr. Mitty

A world-famous British doctor called in to assist with a critical surgical procedure on a wealthy banker. When the situation gets hot, he fixes a problem and dons the gown to take care of matters himself.

Walter Mitty, crack shot

"The world's greatest pistol shot" on trial for a murder. He coolly boasts of his firearm prowess and then, when this comment causes mayhem to erupt in the courtroom, he comes to the aid of a woman who may or may not be his lover.

Captain Mitty

WWI pilot, British or American, who undertakes a dangerous mission to bomb an ammunition depot when his comrades are too frightened of the artillery and anti-aircraft guns to take action.

Walter Mitty the Undefeated

A dauntless man facing the firing squad for an unknown reason.

District Attorney

The district attorney is a villainous man trying to convict Walter in the courtroom fantasy. He hits a woman who seems to be Mitty's lover.

Beautiful, dark-haired woman

The presumed lover of Walter Mitty, crack shot, this mysterious woman is present at Mitty's trial. When he seems to be in danger of being convicted, she throws herself into his arms in an apparent act of passion and desperation.

Dr. Renshaw

Dr. Renshaw is the Mittys' doctor in real life, who appears in Mitty's fantasy about being a surgeon.
