I think patience and God's will are the main themes of the sonnet. The sonnet explains the philosophy of life used by Milton. It teaches us of a man who has committed himself to God entirely: a man who accepts what God has given him and searches for how he may derve God even in blindness. The speaker learns to wait patiently for a sign from God about what he is supposed to do.
