"The Stolen Party" and Other Stories

What metaphor (direct comparison of initially, seemingly unlike subjects) does Heker create in the story? What do you see as the/a theme in Heker's story?

I was thinking the metaphor would the the magician's monkey at the party. How he used it as the main kids source of entertainment. In a way, Senora Ines treated Rosaura as the "monkey" at the end of the party, calling her as a "pet" and paid her with money as a reward. She seemed rude and presisted for the attention of the magican's attention. While the other quiet kids who didn't "do so well" got better "rewards" despite their lack of participation. Ex the fat boy who was afraid to hold the monkey got a blue gift while Rosaura got money even if she "helped" the magician out.

Iam not sure about the theme of the story..

is it to be grateful for what you have and for what you're give by other people and family?

Another theme could be: have apostive attitude and love what you have.

The Maid’s Daughter (Metaphor)

Early in the story, Rosaura's mother tells Rosaura that she is not Luciana's friend; to Luciana's family, Rosaura is simply "the maid's daughter." While the term is a statement of fact, Herminia also means it to refer metaphorically to Rosaura's class position. Being the maid's daughter means Rosaura is distinct from the other children who attend the party. While the other childrens' parents presumably have equal socioeconomic standing with Luciana's mother, Herminia fears that Rosaura will be rejected by the rich people when they discover she is merely the maid's daughter.
