Explain how the point of view of this chapter forces the reader to consider the narrators psychological state?

Through the narrator's words, we immediately see Mersault is unfeeling.... unfazed. He sleeps through the visitation, feels as if he's being judged, and has no interest in seeing her before the closing of the casket. Mersault is detached.... going through the motions, and as readers, we find ourselves asking why.
