The Stranger

If you were a jury member -- and therefore were not a reader of Meursault's own narration of his behavior -- would you find the prosecutor's story about Meursault convincing? Would you buy his defense attorney's story? Explain.

I'm not sure how I would react as a juror. We know Meursault is guilty of murder, so that's not the question. The question comes down to what degree of murder he committed, and what is the appropriate punishment. In my opinion, the prosecutor doesn't prove that Meursalt's actions are premeditated. Thus, I would not support public execution for his crime.

As far as Meursault's attorney, the man was out of his league. He didn't defend his client, he simply provided more fuel for the fire.
