Part 1 Chapter 6
The Stranger by Albert Camus
The killing of the Arab is meaningless which seems to fit Meursault's exestential angst that the world itself is meaningless. I think that is the main theme of the chapter. Meursault exestential angst.decides to head back down the beach after Raymond returns to the house because he realizes that "to stay or to go, it amounted to the same thing." Here is Camus' interjection of Meursault's journey back to meet the Abusrd head on. He did not have to go back and he does not intend to shoot the Arab but the sun is strong and nothing matters. He could go back or he could not but by going back he will force the ultimate conclusion of his creation of meaning in a meaningless world and that is the important goal of Camus' novel.
