Salamano, unlike Meursault, lives life reacting to his emotions and enjoys an daily routine. He and his dog are inseparable, but Salamano is abusive, and for all intents and purposes..... they do not even like each other. They have a love/hate relationship that seems extremely strange to everyone but Meursault. Meurasault never questions Salamano's abuse. This relationship provides a direct contrast to Meursault's relationship, or lack thereof, with Marie.
