The Tempest
how is forgiveness shown in the story
prospero
prospero
This play, like many of Shakespeare’s Romantic Comedies, is based on reconciliation and forgiveness. In act 5 Prospero says, "The rarer action is / in virtue than in vengeance” This is kind of strange since he spent much of the play plotting the revenge on his brother Antonio and the King. In the end, Prospero's capacity to forgive those who have betrayed him, Miranda's empathy, Ariel's mercy, and Gonzalo's thoughtfulness give us a sense of reconciliation despite a perceived injustice
