I disagree - The Tempest plot is quite exciting with lots of action.
Anyone who finds "The Tempest" boring clearly does not understand it.
Try looking at the work in context. This was Shakespeare's last play; Prospero's final monologue in which he gives up his magic is in so many ways Shakespeare himself, standing in the middle of a dark and empty stage, all his charms undone, giving up his magic, his writing--and just as Prospero freed Ariel only a line earlier; pleading with the audience to *let him go*:
"But release me from my bands
With the help of your good hands:
Gentle breath of yours my sails
Must fill, or else my project fails,
Which was to please. Now I want
Spirits to enforce, art to enchant,
And my ending is despair,
Unless I be relieved by prayer,
Which pierces so that it assaults
Mercy itself and frees all faults.
As you from crimes would pardon'd be,
Let your indulgence set me free."
