What does this quote mean to the plot of the play "All thy vexations were but my trials of thy love, and thou hast strangest stood the test."

Basically Prospero feels that he has treated Ferdinand too harshly. He says that he merely wanted to test Ferdinand to see if he is worthy of his daughter's love. Prospero says that Ferdinand has passed his test.
