What are some of the conflicts that occur in the story?

On major conflict present in the story can be found in Jimmy Cross' obsession with Martha. Jimmy's internal conflict causes him to knowingly spend his time dreaming about a woman who has no interest in him, at the expense of the men with whom he serves. Jimmy blames himself for Lavender's death because he was thinking about Martha when Lavender was shot. Cross end this inner conflict near the end of the novel when he symbolically burns Martha's pictures and letters.
