There is of course the courage of being in a war. Norman also finds that it takes a different kind of courage to return home. After surviving war, being "normal" can be a very scary thing. Norman also has to contend with the emotional and psychological scars from the war. On top of that he needs the courage to face civilians who blame him for the atrocities of that war.
