I have to write an essay on O'Brienn's moral code, and i am having trouble findiing his moral code, aswell as what a moral code is.
I think that there is always a moral courage with O'Brien. In "Rainy River", he finds it more courageous to dodge the war than enter into it. O'Brien feels it is "safer" to keep his family and friends by going to war than by escaping to Canada and lose his ties to the United States. In war, O'Brien feels there is no such thing as courage. He has no expectations of valor or superhuman exploits from his men.
