Characterization of the novel village by the sea?

Towards this Desai fabricates the plights,hardships and obstacles which are undergone by Hari in his life. Although he is a little boy he stops his schooling and earns money to runs his family and he thinks about his sister's better future. It shows his enormus love towards his sisters.
