Hari attempts to take over as the family's breadwinner. He picks coconuts, found an old, broken net which he used to catch shrimp and fish for his family, and he worries about Bela and Kamal's education, although he never completed his own. He also works toward preparing the gifts for his sisters' eventual marriages, all while resenting his father for not doing what he believes is his responsibility.

Lila, on the other hand, makes breakfast for her family everyday, takes over the household chores, and looks after her sister while her mom and dad are at the hospital.

Both Hari and Lila, as you can see, take over as the family caregivers.
