The Wars
Conflicts in The Wars by Timothy Findley?

the wars
I think the war affects Robert by taking away his innocence as well as his sense of self. He is always in conflict trying to retain his understanding of the world before the war: unfortunately it keeps slipping away. Rowena's death, is a tragic accident due to Robert's shirked responsibility. It is visited again after Robert shoots the horse aboard the ship. He has been forced to commit an act he detests.
