"Our lives are mostly a constant evasion of ourselves."

This quote seems to get at what you might mean by fragmentation. Far from being confident, ambitious modern people with a knack for science and progress, Eliot's picture is much more grim and pessimistic. It is impossible, in The Waste Land, to really grasp a good picture of identity.
