Dad uses the metaphor of how learning to drive a car "...at first it’s scary but then before you realize, with a lot of practice, you have it under control." What is Dad using this metaphor to explain to Kenny?

Kenny was wondering how parents knew what to do. He had told Dad that he would never understand what to do as a grown up. He said he would never be as good a parent as his parents were. Dad uses parenting as a metaphor for learning to drive a car.

"Well, that's what being a grown-up is like. At first it's scary but then before you realize, with a lot of practice, you have it under control. Hopefully, you'll have lots of time to practice being grown-up before you actually have to do it."
