Why are the students willing to go along with the changes to the way they are expected to behave and speak?

I think the students get caught up in the energy and strength that they perceive to be found in mass conformity to a specific movement or ideology. The kids find purpose and identity in the wave. The Wave lends itself well to the adolescent mind which seeks identity and purpose.
