How does the Rat feel the more he hears about the South?(Chapter 9)

Rat becomes more and more curious about why the others leave only to come back. He doesn 't understand the inherent call to migration because he doesn't feel it. When Sea Rat ask Rat to accompany him..... he refuses, only to regret it.
