Why aren't Kit's aunt and uncle there to meet her when the ship comes in to Wetherfield?

Kit's aunt and uncle weren't there to meet her because they didn't know she was coming.

Kit swallowed and gathered her courage. "Captain Eaten," she said boldly, "my uncle and aunt can hardly be blamed for not meeting me. You see- well, to be honest, they do not even know that I am coming."
