This quote supports the idea that the women during this period were expected to stay within the role of domesticity. A woman's job was to care for their homes, children, and of course, their husbands. Any other aspirations were generally met with amusement. I mean, why would any woman want to branch out from her duties at home to do anything else if she didn't have to? ;-)
