9. Briefly discuss the voice in this book. Hurston switches from dialect to narrative prose. It is difficult to read at first, but it also has some benefits. Discuss both, as well as techniques which can be used to make it easier to read.

The voice means a characters individuality. It can also mean the author's style and personality within the text. Your question asks you to consider how using dialect and slang adds to the narrative. Does it give you a sense of realism for the characters and the plot?
