How did janie and joe change ?

Joe Starks is a fortune driven man. He sweet talks Janie into running away with him. Janie is still young naive. Joe needs to control everything, including Jamie. Jamie in fact becomes a thing to him. Joe changes, he becomes consumed with himself until he eventually ties. She becomes his property to control. Janie quickly outgrows Joe's charm. She rises above Joe's sexist misogyny and frees herself after his death.
