Janie can see that joe is________________ inside

I'm going to go with "old" or "impotent" or "deteriorating" inside............ but I'm also going to check this against the text tomorrow. I don't have the novel with me, but I know this chapter is all about Joe's constant demeaning of Janie and her realization of how it's really him who's aged.
