I agree with this statement in the context that there was a time marriage meant forever. You loved the person you married, and you stayed together for the long haul. Vows were understood and adhered to. That doesn't mean there weren't exceptions or that marriage was perfect. It meant that you weathered the storms, fought the fights, raised the kids, struggled to get by, and made a concerted team effort to forge a lasting, loving marriage.
