which character is the best and why?

Best is a pretty vague term for a character. If you mean which one I enjoyed or found interesting, I would say Janie Crawford. We watch Janie unable to accept her grandmother's fate in marriage and life. She goes through successive men unable to find her voice through these people. It isn't until the end when Janie discovers her own person within herself.
